how did the diff end up tyrie??
I haven't been on here in a while, but just saw this. It ended up great, I had one side pop out of its clip once, but just tapped it back in. Also found the oil all came out the breather when cornering as the high capacity diff cover wasn't baffled. To fix that I popped the top off the breather and put a hose on it to raise the breather.

The KAAZ LSD was the best LSD I've used, very chattery to start with but after a few oil changes it settled down. I used the kaaz oil to start with and after that some castrol oil, nothing special.

Are these needed for Datsun r160 to Subaru r160 swaps?

Nope. They allow you to used the standard 1600 half shafts with a Subaru R180 clutch plate LSD diff

plus a pair of standard 1600 output flanges to replace the Subi splined stub axles, plus a 1600 / 180B input flange so the tailshaft bolts on.

Bolts up with no modified components and gives you a good clutch-plate style LSD. Don't like the 3.7 ratio ? You can bolt the LSD centre into most Subi R160 LSD's to get a range of ratios (I have this centre in an STi 4.44 diff, only needed to enlarge the crownwheel mounting boltholes from 10 to 12mm).

Yep, you may get an R160 LSD cheaper (but will probably be a viscous unit), but by the time you muck around with modified / custom driveshafts or custom flanges it won't be that cheap and won't be anywhere near as easy. The RX turbo is the only bolt-in R160 I know of.

I don't know of anyone that makes R160 driveshaft adapters commercially, the only ones I've seen were backyard jobs.

Hey guys, I just done this conversion on my 1600 and this write up was spot on, everything bolted in like was said. I used some modified shafts I bought off lampy instead of the beta shafts. I've only driven the car in the rain so far and the difference is amazing, very fun! I have a suretrac center in my diff.

Good to hear the shafts are working fine. They are quite simple to make, just a bit challenging finding s13 NA stubs.

How is the suretrac? different to a clutchpack?

What do you have to do to the shafts lampy?

The suretrac works on a cam under load and is only 1 way. It's the only lsd I have driven so can't comment how it works compared to the plated center. It is so much more predictable in the wet then the open center. The diff was well priced, you can pick them up on eBay for $450.
Rjb, you need to machine back the cv flange and weld on a plate with a spigot to mount the datto Uni joint on. There is a topic on here that does the same thing with a subi r160 LSD. The procedure is the same.

So I have a pair of the stub shafts, been sitting around for way too long, and have a pair of 1600 Driveshafts, but no bolts. I'm converting a 180B, so can re-use the outboard bolts, but no inboard studs. Anyone got a lead on where to purchase these from ? Haven't tried anyone yet.
