So tyrie your saying it would be possible if you sent the crownwheel down to the machine shop to enlarge the hole in the crownwheel? Are the bolt holes the same

machining a crownwheel would be difficult for most machine shops due to the fact that they are hardened. you could do it with a ceramic coated carbite tip or with something like a EDM wire cutter that can cut hard stuff. would have to find the right shop to do the job.

Yep i was thinking along the same lines. I might pull the crownwheel out of one of my old r160's and hardness test it.

Very interesting thread. Brad, do you know what size the subaru CV's are???
Someone somewhere would machine up a shaft to suit and off you go.

Pretty sure they are the same as late nissan 27 spline. Happy to use the uni's though mate. Never snapped any and quite a few blokes are running them with more power than I have. As I mentioned before the drag strip would probably kill the standard shafts but, I have no plans in driving fast in a straight line. :D

regarding datsun crownwheel on subi LSD, I'll have to measure but I think I have a non-K centre in a K housing. K crownwheel should bolt up to subi LSD.

I think shipping was $50 USD. Would it be bad to ask my diff engineer mate what he would charge to copy them in low volumes? he has all the gear to do them, but labour might make them $$, plus I dont know if they are patented...?

Can you even patent something like that?

Why not just be his Australian distributor :) As spandex said, unless you have contacts in the tooling industry, would be hard to mash them out for much cheaper.
