Dave's idea is the way to go. It's how I've done mine- an L18 timing cover on L20B block. That leaves a 20mm gap between timing cover & head. I carved some 20mm thick aluminium plate into an adaptor that fills the gap nicely.

Since L20B and Z20 timing covers interchange you should be able to use one of those. Apparently the Z24 block is 20mm taller than L or Z20 so that's the thickness of aluminium plate you'll need for your adaptor.

Using a stock timing cover makes it all much easier and cheaper. You also get to use a stock oil pump, water pump and a distributor if you want. I've made a crank trigger setup with 4 Chevy LS2 coils. If you're planning to run EFI, PM me and I'll explain what I've done as you'll want good ignition accuracy when you rev to 9000rpm.

Cheers!

Well the plan is to run the KA harness since using KA24de head. So I figured I would just run the KA dizzy. I got a price from carrillo for the custom rods and pistons. THey said $2000 for the rods and pistons. But that is using custom pistons and running 10.2:1 compression. I want a little higher so going to just get the 10.5:1 pistons which will put me around 10.8:1 compression. So will be around $1800 for pistons and rods. Still cheaper then buying BC crank and well rev faster and be more reliable. :) DO you have a pic of the spacer you made? How did you attach it to the lower stock cover?

I've taken pics. I'll get 'em off my camera tomorrow & see if I can get them up on here.

The spacer is drilled to allow two M6 allen key bolts to fasten it to the top of the L series timing cover. The heads of these bolts sit inside the spacer, below the top surface.

Which KA head do you have? The RWD type from a Navara has the distributor at the front. If you use that, you'll need to put a bearing in the timing cover for the top of the oil pump and distributor drive shaft and cap the distributor hole in the timing cover.
If you have a FWD (Bluebird) head you'll need to plug the distributor hole in the back of the KA head and you can use the L series distributor. Sure it'll need recurving.

How do you plan to supply the fuel to your motor?

Looking at having my cams re-ground and also cutting the camshafts
(drawn badly in red) then blocking them, can any1 see any issues?
Most bike cams are done like this.
A little less inertia for free.
