 Post subject: Wiper Motor

Hi guys,
this is my first post on this forum, i am currently restoring/building a S15 sr20det powered 1969 datsun 1600. The current problem i am stuck on and cant seem to find if anyone else has encoutered it/ put up a thread on it is the original wiper motor does not fit due to the raised height in comparision from the original motor and the s15 sr20 with the 6 speed.
Has anyone encoutered this before, and if so do you have any pointers/ pics on how you did it?
I have spoken to Baz from datsport and he said look into using possibly a s13/14 wiper motor.

The '71 onwards has a horizontal wiper motor whereas the '69 motor drops down does it not?

Perhaps a late model motor will do the job: -

Stefano If you can find the article in dime quarterly it will talk you through using a Mazda 84--87 626 wiper motor , using some of your existing 1600 wiper motor parts . This then makes the wiper motor fit correctly and also go at a much better or faster speed. Remember this is a USA set up so our parking position is opposite to where they have it, but it does work .

This dude bought an adaptor from SWR I think, to suit S1x wiper motor on 510. Not sure if there was any extra parts required as I thought the component that connects the motor to the internal arm system was different, he may be able to chime in.

One thing I have found, the U13 bluebirds share a lot of parts with the S1x cars, like throttle cable/pedal, wiper motors and other small bits that can be used on Datsuns, they are often overlooked for these parts but are a lot easier to find on the wrecking market for cheap.

If you do go down this path post an update with regards to the connecting component on the newer wiper motor.

I have just rebuilt my wiper motor. I have a horizontal type. I'm fairly sure they are the early and Jdm type. I got mine from Japan. This is also a how too rebuild your stock wiper motor guide on the dime quarterly I posted the link in my build thread. It's fairly simple to do

Guys... I run a Mazda wiper motor. I'm pretty sure I have a write up about it on my build thread. You go to the Wreckers... In Australia. And get one from a 626. Which parks exactly the same as an Australian wiper. You drill three holes or elongate the stock wiper plate (or make a new one if you're that way inclined) and swap the pin from the Datsun link to the Mazda link and it'll bolt straight in and wipers will sit perfect. The only other thing you will need to do is adapt the power wires correctly.

I also have a 180sx wiper motor, and you could also use a R31 wiper motor, and make a new plate up for the wiper to sit on, and that will bolt on also. Both work as well as each other. Just to clairfy, I run 180sx indicator stalk with variable intermittent wipers with the Mazda 626 wiper motor and it works very well! I have also routed power directly to the wiper motor via a relay when I re-wired my car, which gave it heaps more power rather than using the standard Datsun wiring.

Oh, and the 180sx wiper motor will allow a straight bolt on of the Datsun wiper linkage arm. So you just swap the Datsun one onto the 180sx motor. Because Nissan Engineering.

Oh I wish I knew that! Nice one! I would like to look at alternate wipers as well. some with decent grip on the windscreen!

Grip on the screen is the arms mate!
Even the standard wiper will work really well if it is wired as per a modern car. Ie, run it through a relay. Original 1600 wiring sucks so bad. I know you re-wired your car, but if you have't done the wiper, you'll find a MASSIVE difference!

That's what I meant :) Powering through my many missed posts.

I have a new motor and new blades. The arms are crap. Weill the springs are the issue in the current ones. I might look at getting some new springs...

Hi guys
My 71 1600 has a Preslite wiper motor tucked up behind the glove box which tidies up the engine bay and works a treat no problems as yet (touch wood) and it gets a good working in my daily :)

GDay. I foudn an artice on the 510 Relm. A wiper motor from a honda integra bolts right in. I havent done it yet but it looks like it will work. I think I bought one on ebay for abour $100 from US.

I had to repair my wipers recently. Using the original wiper motor i just made sure the earth was good and then wire brushed the pivots and then greased all moving parts. Works ok for the minimal time it will ever be driven in the rain. There should be alot of later model options around these days but im a stickler for originality (sometimes)...
