Hi all, long time lurker etc, in need of some guidance...

I'm trying to locate a thread that I stumbled across here a number of months ago, in the Members Build 1600 pages (Ithink). This member had removed all and sundry bolt on bits from his car (door catches, window mechanisms, locks, etc, etc) and had them tumble cleaned and re-plated. The result was pretty impressive, and I want to look at this process for my own build.

I realise it might be a long shot, but does anyone know which thread this might have been?? I have used SEARCH function (not new to forum life), but so far drawing blanks.

Thanks in advance.

Can't remember the thread myself but I think what you are asking about is electroplating old bolts, washers and steel parts with zinc.

There are a few places in Melbourne that do it, I haven't done this myself but wouldn't rule it out in the future

Yeah, most platers will do it - look up "electroplating" in the yellow pages or the interweb equivalent.

You can also buy kits (google "JANE plating") and do it yourself. Not sure if the cost and effort is worth it for a small number of parts, I used to get tubs of stuff done for $50

Yeah, sorry gents...I'm starting to think I might have seen the thread on Ratsun, or something. It was more just about how the guy went thru the process of cataloguing and dis/reassembling all the bits and pieces. He'd dedicated a good few pages to the entire discussion, as I recall...

Thanks for the replies though
