One week on facebook, and we have 54 fans. Good work.

If you haven't become a fan yet, you'd better, or Lurch might get angry.

You wouldn't like him when he's angry.

It ruined it. Check it out. Very few new posts.
Its a desert now.
I have enjoyed Ozdat over the years. It will be a shame to loose all the info.

Face book killed datnet & will now kill ozdat.

At least with a forum you can search for information.
Get input & various suggestions, fixes, and solutions to commons questions.

Facebook is instant gratification.
Tomorrow its gone & forgotten.
RIP Ozdat forum.

I agree with you Baz.

I dont think this forum will die. Aslong as it is kept simple and easy to use. I had my build on datnet but no one posts there anymore since they changed it to the new style of forum (with shout boxes and its facebook style) so I moved it over to here. I deleted my facebook account about 3 years ago because there is too much crap on there. However when I was at the datsun meeting recently it was made clear that most of the information about events and things get posted on facebook. I think they are going to be emailing out the details because I said i don't have facebook. I don't really want to join back up to it, but I might have to to keep up with the datsun stuff.

I actually emailed datnet a few years back asking them to change it back to a normal forum like Ozdat but apparently people were asking for it to be more like facebook and have shout boxes and stuff. I asked the question about visitors and posts and they said that they actually have more visitors now than they did when it was the old style forum (like this one) but they have less posts now and that they are trying to please everyone by making the change.

I know for a fact that I don't go on there hardly at all anymore because there is no new content. Even if I post something its unlikely to get a timely response.

Its a shame but it is what it is. I tried to get it changed back but nothing came of my suggestion. I suppose if I wanted to do something about it I would start my own forum for the Sydney guys. But I actually enjoy coming on this Ozdat forum. And it would take a while to get the valuable posts up like this forum does.

Long live Ozdat.

The thing with Datnet was the post count diminished quickly and then they started the facebook page. The posts on Facebook aren't that much.
Ozdat is and always will be a great technical resource, and we collectively need to make sure it stays that way.

We have Downunder Datsuns for Facebook, I don't think there's a need for an Ozdat page. Facebook pages are great for instant responses if you have a problem or query or if you urgently need a part, but it's harder to search for older content.

This may have already been covered but who is backing up all the great info on the Ozdat forum currently?
My favourite old fishing forum dissapeared recently due to a web owner who got the shits and shut down the site instantly losing years of valuable info and reports.
Ozdat has alot more info than that fishing forum did which is why i ask the question.

The only reason facebook gets so many views is because it links similar page interests and updates to people.
This may get alot of quick views but i assume there would be very little contribution to the pages other than sh*t talk and a quick glance from most people who are linked to it.
This forum is a little dated in format but the forum isnt meant for shoutouts and smart ass quips...

100% agree, Anth.
down under datsuns was the demise of datnet.

The only reason for the OZDAT facebook page is to drive more people to this website and hopefully they become members on the forum and join in on the discussions.

The occasional person adds a comment, and we post a comment every now and then, but it is by no means intended to replace what we have here (and in no way could it).

We've been on FB since 2010 and it hasn't affected the forums from what I can tell. I think the major affect is declining Datsun ownership. The only thing that will kill OZDAT is when the last Datsun in Oz is sent to the crusher.

Yes the site is backed up regularly.

Search Datsun Australia, and hopefully the OZDAT FB page shows up, and that leads people back here.

Yeah, it's the standard layout/design of the forum software we have been using since 2003. If it aint broke...

There's a chat system down at the botom of the page, but no one seems to use it. Not enough people on-line at the same time I guess.
