Hello to all of the members of Ozdat...

My name is Savio and I live up in the Dandenong Ranges, east of Melbourne.

I have been a long time lurking visitor and occasional poster and thought I should, at least, introduce myself here. I have really enjoyed the extremely wide range of members, their cars, their opinions and advice and all of the really interesting and valuable information that has been accumulated here! I've met or corresponded with a few of you already - mainly through parts purchases, etc and the occasional PM questions.

I have owned nearly 20 Datsun 1600's over the past 25 years - they have been either road, road race or drag cars. I still own number 16, 17 & 18 (all four door sedans, post 1970) and, most recently, I added a 1971 510 2 door which is "not quite" number 19 as it currently exists as a fully painted, rolling shell ready for assembly.

At present, the garage contains:
- 1970 510 Sedan - drag car - L20B, T3/4 Hybrid turbo, Motec EFI, full manual JATCO Automatic, 4.11 welded R180
- 1971 510 Sedan - street - SR20DE, Stumpy 5 spd, 4.11 R180 ATB LSD - conversion almost complete...
- 1971 510 2 Door - purchased from Ozdat member Wayne from Mildura in 2012, it is now a painted, rolling shell; currently in process of restoring and assembling all of the two door specific interior parts
- 1970 510 Sedan - FJ20E (this car is running but is very rough and will mainly be a donor for the 2 door)

For your interest, I have attached some pictures of my cars and I hope to post more pictures of the rest of the current "fleet" soon, but I just wanted to introduce myself at this stage and I hope I can make a contribution to some of the discussions in future.

Regards,

Savio
Melbourne, Australia

Hi all, I'm Neil a standard datto nut, Been reading this great site for awhile and now I've joined I had good answers to my questions "thanks all" .
I've owned a 1200 sedan, 1200 ute ,120y sedan & wagon , 180b s&w,200b s&w, 3 x 910 blueys and four 1600's over the past 20+ years only one ended it"s life at my hand (bloody tree jumped out).
At the moment I'm building and fj20 powered 1600 race car which I'm in the middle of converting to two door (one side done) its a old rally car and has had many repairs and mods over the years ( I haven't chopped up a good one) the main reason for the conversion is so I can enlarge the rear wheel tubs . This is starting to sound like it should be in a build thread, which i will start when i finish the bodywork been taking pics as i progress.
Thank You Ozdat.

Hi everyone.
I'm Justin, from Sydney.
Just picked up a 1974 Datsun 260c. To be used for the Shitbox Rally in 2015.
Driving from Canberra to Townsville, via the Birdsville track. All to raise money for the Cancer Council.

Will be looking for plenty of advice and help in getting the car prepped on a minimal (non existent) budget!

So g'day to all. Great forum with lots of great info, well done to the owners and mods.

To tell the truth, I have been a member since 2009, but I haven't posted.

I owned a 1600 when I was 19 and the bug bit. Sadly that car met its demise against a horse on a local suburban road. I kept it for many years, wanting to fix it but once I had moved out of home it got sent to the wreckers before I had the chance to get all the good bits out of it. I was pretty disappointed to be honest.

They have been my favourite car since and I cannot shake that. At 36, 3 kids and a mortgage, the bug seems to be really niggling and I have been seriously looking at purchasing a car to tinker a little on and just drive and enjoy. I really love the turbo builds but my heart really wants an L series with twin Webers, I just think that induction noise is unbeatable!

The wife seems to be ok with the idea so my looking has been getting even more serious. With any luck I may just post a pic of a bought car very soon!!

I look forward to continued reading of your great build threads. I may not post much but I will lurk a plenty!!!!!!

CJ

Hi All,

My name is Nathan from W.A
Just recently brought a Datsun 1600 4 months ago.
I previously have owned around 4 Datsun 1600's in my time, the last one about 15 years ago but never had the funds to go the whole hog.
My plan is to completely strip down and rebuild from ground up and it will be powered by an SR20DET Black Top.
Car is currently on a home made rotissorie.

G'day!

Just bought this 620 project this week,

[ img ]

Its got a lot of rust in the cab and its in quite a few bits but the tub looks good (apart from the paint!)
Current plan is to fix and put back on the road with some 17" steelies, lowered as much as possible and use it as a daily
Long term would want an angry NA SR20 and airbags all round, but that's just a dream at the moment...
Cheers
Lewis

Howdy all, just bought a 1600 that is going to get a full rebuild. Just now working out what i will do but keen on going with a L20B with a couple of webers and a good solid suspension package.

She is a bit rough at the moment but all the bits are there which is a good start, just needs a tonne of bodywork. Not a huge amount of rust other then the usual spots, bottom of doors and front quarters. Any advice on brakes and suspension would be great, heard a lot of talk about 200B struts and seeing as i want a L20B motor anyway i think i will be on the prowl for a 200B shitter to strip from.

Located on the Mornington Peninsula in vic and loving the forum, so many ideas about what to do. Thanks in advance for all the stupid questions i am bound to ask.

Hi members,

My name is Jace, 31, and I'm a builder by trade.

Ive just recently bought myself a 1971 1600 with a z18et.

I live in Batemans Bay, about 2 hours towards the coast from Canberra.

Ive owned previously a na s13 silvia, turbo s13 and then a turbo r32 4 door. I ended up selling the skyline to help finish my first house, and here I'am 7 years later, not long finished my second house and finally got myself another car to play with!

Once I started looking again at what to own next, I had a few cars on my list.
I decided on the datto because my old man had one as his very first car, I haven't gone the old school route, and I also found out that my fiance is pregnant with our first child.

So I thought it would be fitting to own one like my old man, and then one day my son or daughter will eventually take the one I'm building now.

Heres a photo of my old mans. I will start a build thread as well, and I'm also looking forward to getting to know you all.

Thanks,
Jace
