It's really a question of style. personally i wouldn't want anything other than the pre 910 bluebird saloon, that is 1600, stanza, 180b or 200b. 1600s will be out of your price range as will alot of the better condition 180b's, however stanzas and 200bs can often be had pretty cheaply and look terrific IMO. 200bs come standrad with a 2 litre, chuck a mild cam and a set of sus and you could conceivably have a neat little datto for $3000.

good luck

How about a G100 Daihatsu Charade????

I picked mine up for $250 off ebay, spent another $600 on parts for road worthy cert and then another $600 worht of rego, goes like a dream and its EFI, plenty of parts at the wreckers and even has A/C tho it needs to be re gassed.

also for that price range look for EF Civics, Corollas of various variants list could go on and on, just because you'r eon a Datsun forum don't mean you have to get one, think out of the box like I have and keep an open mind, like you said its for a project and for L's I know they're not the most out there cars but think abot the money you're looking at spending....

just my oppinion tho
Not many people think "Daihatsu Charade" when looking for a project car.

hey,

you have a pretty big range, 180b, 1200, stanza, corolla, t18, bluebird, celica(old school celica's :) ), ford laser tx3 (suprisingly cool) charade f2, so many optionss :) if you spend your project doing it up why not keep it for p plates and make it super epic? :)

If you want to 'carry' lots, have a cheap runner and never have any hope of losing your licence, buy a Suzuki Carry. My brother has one as his first car.

Don't go for a ford laser TX3, my brother had one and it's ended up costing him over 10K keeping the bloody thing on the road. After all that, he could only sell it for $2100, with rego. Absolute nightmare car.

Well... It's like a Hyundai Xcell or a Daewoo Matiz... Not real cars are they?

180b all the way  A lot cheaper then a 1600 and lighter then a 200b and still has the IRS, and with the right stance they look awesome. Not the fastest of your options but they are awesome fun to drive if its not a clapped out one and you have plenty of options to make them go faster in the long run.

The 1200's can be pretty fkn sexy aswell

One thing about the 620 is they have a comercial stud pattern so they are hard to get nice wheels for. But they do look good.

Have a look at the pictures section and see what you like

That's a good point too. We had one in the UK, it was a great car, out of everything he left behind my Dad said he regrets leaving that the most. It was a lot better on fuel than the car we got once we were out here (EA Falcon!) cheaper to own, maintain and it handled really well.

Depending on what you're after you could get an XD or XE Falcon, they can be a tough cruiser but they handle like sh*t. Or an old Commodore.

I don't know what yr talking about here Alistair. My XF outhandles any 200B i've ever had, it couldn't be much different for an XD or XE with power steering. It's really good through twisty stuff and is so light when turning.
